Tips & Tricks

In this day in age, securing your information online is of the utmost importance. One of your first lines of defense in this area is making sure your password is strong and secure.

According to a recent study, “compromised passwords caused 80 percent of all data breaches in 2019.” This unfortunately resulted in financial losses for both businesses and the individual consumer. To better protect yourself from a similar outcome, here are two simple things you can do to improve your password security.

Make Your Password Unique

In order for someone to truly hack you, they need only 15% of your password. We encourage you to make your passwords difficult. That means avoid using personal information like birthdays or names. One of the best ways to make a password impossible to crack is by using a series of random numbers, letters, and symbols. While it may be harder for you to remember, it will be nearly impossible for others to use.

Update Your Password Often

We all have our passwords that we love and have been using for years. And while they may be easy to remember you are really doing yourself a disservice. It is really important to make it a habit to update your passwords often. Updating your passwords every couple of months will help you avoid any run-ins with hackers.
