How To

Social Media

One of the most important things to do when working in the social media marketing realm is creating a strategy. A social media marketing strategy is an overview of everything you plan to do in order to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself on social media.  It’s important that your social media strategy is detailed yet concise. The more specific your strategy is, the more effective it will be in the long run. Following a strategy enforces a sense of accountability, which will ultimately lead you to success. So when you’re creating your next social media strategy follow these steps so you can achieve your social media goals.

1. Set Goals

The first step is to develop a set of goals that will drive your social media strategy. Goals are so important. Without them, you’ll have zero direction. To ensure that these goals are realistic, make sure that they are SMART goals. SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based. Creating goals with these qualities will make it easier for you to track your progress.

2. Know Your Audience

Understanding who your audience is is vital when creating your social media strategy. The audience/customer ultimately determines the direction in which your social media strategy is headed. For example, in order to make effective content, you need to fully understand how it will be perceived by the different personas that make up your following.  You can determine these personas by diving deep into your social media analytics and real word data.

3. Know Your Competition

Learning from your competitors is another important step to complete when creating your social media strategy.  A great way to achieve this is by conducting a competitive analysis on the social media accounts of similar businesses. It will provide you with valuable insights on what is working what’s not.

4. Conduct A Social Media Audit

Reflecting back on what you have done on social media is equally as important as seeing what your competition is doing. Examining your current efforts will give you an idea of what you are doing well and what seems to be missing your target audience.

5. Implement Your Strategy

Depending on your findings, start implementing your strategy by setting up the social media accounts you’ll need to achieve the goals you’ve created. Once these channels are determined you’ll need to tailor your strategy to that specific platform.

6. Create A Content Calendar

One of the most important things to do when developing a social media strategy is creating a content calendar. Content calendars are essential when it comes to achieving the goals set for yourself in your strategy because they hold you accountable. Planning day by day is not an efficient use of time. With a calendar and pre-planned posts, you’ll be able to utilize your time more wisely and make great content with less stress!

7. Adjust Your Strategy

Now that you are fully implementing your social media strategy, always be looking for opportunities to make adjustments. Social media marketing strategies should be adaptable to change since social media is always evolving. Keep a constant and close eye on your efforts so you can determine what is and is not working.
