A lot can happen in a short amount of time, especially in the world of social media. So we’ve put together a quick recap so you won’t miss out on anything.

Systrom and Krieger Have Left the Building

Late Monday, Instagram Co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom announced that he and Mike Krieger were resigning from Instagram. Both men founded Instagram back in 2010 and since then it has grown into one of the largest social media platforms in the world with over 800 million users. In a statement released this week, Systrom said “we are planning on leaving Instagram to explore our curiosity and creativity again. Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs; that’s what we plan to do.”  While the change came as a shock to most, we can’t wait to see what Systrom and Krieger will do next!

Facebook Pages Can Now Join Facebook Groups

Recently, Facebook has announced that Facebook Pages will now be able to join existing Facebook Groups.  Facebook has already allowed Pages to start Groups and hope that by building off this it will create strong communities throughout the platform. This new feature will help business pages cultivate more relationships and build brand exposure.

Talk GIPHY to Me

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is a GIF worth? Instagram has announced that you can now direct message GIFs to your friends through the app. The new feature can be found in any direct thread you have. All you have to do is tap the new GIF button in the text bar to open up the library. Simply swipe through or type in a keyword to find the perfect GIF to add to your conversation. We’re going to have a lot of fun with this!

New Shopping Features Added to Instagram

Last week, Instagram shared a few new shopping features. You can now browse a personalized shopping tab in your explore page. This new feature lets the user explore and learn more about the product they are considering to purchase. Instagram has also expanded shopping tags for Instagram Stories. Now, shopping tags are available all over the world and companies in 46 different countries can include a shopping bag feature in their Stories. While Instagram has not include purchasing capabilities in the actual app yet, we think it will only be a matter of time.
